The three paragraphs that follow are not flattery. They are the method we watched you use, paragraph after paragraph, piece after piece. We are naming it back to you so you can see what we saw.

I. Genealogical Audit

You do not begin where the news begins. You begin at the funding source, the conference room, the founding memo. In the Middle East Monitor essay, you walk the term "new antisemitism" back through Netanyahu-era conferences and the neoconservative policy apparatus that propagated it until what looks like a contemporary vocabulary reveals a twenty-year institutional deposit. This is the first move of your method: the term is never the event. The paper trail is the event.

II. Operational Translation

Once you have the term's paper trail, you refuse to stop at its claim. You ask what it does once it is the governing vocabulary. Your Overland reading of Australia's Islamophobia envoy brief performs exactly this move: the concept versus the concrete administrative consequence. Resource allocation. Target population. Surveillance behaviour. Prosecution pattern. An "envoy" is a noun. An envoy whose output restricts Palestine solidarity while leaving structural Islamophobia untouched in counter-extremism policy is a translation. You insist on the translation.

Within this framework, Jewish safety is constructed as achievable only through the suppression of Palestinian existence, political expression, and solidarity. Palestinian visibility and political mobilisation are recoded as Jewish endangerment: a framing now increasingly reproduced in mainstream political discourse.

III. The Inversion Test

Your diagnostic is a single question: does the term's stated goal match its actual effect, or is the effect its opposite? "Social cohesion" legislation that fractures community institutional capacity passes. "Countering violent extremism" that produces speech restrictions on the targeted community passes. A term is not rejected for being governance vocabulary. A term is rejected for being hollow. This is the move that makes your work citable: it offers readers a diagnostic they can carry out of the page.

As a Muslim scholar of Islamophobia, I know how hate can be intensified when my identity as a Muslim is only seen as associated with a monstrous entity. The 2019 Christchurch terrorist attack, where a far-right terrorist shot and murdered 53 Muslim worshippers, marked the catastrophic culmination of this Islamophobic climate in the West.
